CONCEPT & ORIGIN

Founders of DL.png

The title, Dejiner Log (DL), is rooted in intentional wordplay. 'Dejiner' is a humorous, hyperforeignism frequently used for 'designer,' while 'Log' serves two purposes: referring to 'people' (in Hindi) and the act of 'recording notes.'

DL is an official student-run publication from NID, created to showcase the diverse work, design, and design practices of both current students and alumni. By highlighting this range of perspectives on design, DL aims to foster a community of open-minded and confident designers within the institution.

The publication was originally initiated by a founding team—Tejas, Nimal, Vaidehi, Shantashree, Yadukrishna, and Shabeer, in 2023.

The Dejiner Log has successfully released 5 editions. The editorial scope features academic content—2 articles from every 3rd & 4th-year design discipline—with creative supplements like team projects, games, and puzzles. Themes are often personal and derived from shared student life. The publication maintains its momentum through continuous promotion and regular events.

REFLECTION

My time at Dejiner Log was a total education! I gained crucial, hands-on insight into the entire publication lifecycle, from concept strategy and design (layout, graphics) right through to print deadlines, teamwork, and audience engagement.

Plus, I got to make a whole bunch of new friends and realized that design can be used for amazing non-academic, personal skill-focused projects.

The biggest shift for me was discovering the managerial side of design: the world concerned with team & people management, viewership, and permission—not just aesthetics. It was a massive learning opportunity as an introvert and designer.
